This was a series branding done for Blue Ridge Community Church that was to focus on Scripture. In more detail, the teaching team wanted to do a series that was an expounding of what they had personally been learning in scripture, giving them an opportunity to pour out their hearts to show the journey they had been taken on with Scripture.
Coupled with that, each week we would be telling a different individual’s story of how they had been impacted and moved through Scripture each week via video. Thus showing people that Scripture is not just something that we can learn from through the teachers, but we can personally learn from by allowing it to be living and active in our lives.
Given that prompt and creative brief, I chose to go with a seemingly atherial composition of the organic supernatural growth of a living and active Bible. This turned out to be a rather compositing heavy project as obviously finding a stock photo like this didn’t really exist. However, after many hours of masking, creating custom brushes, color grading, and subtle texturing it came together how my initial sketches imagined.
The typesetting was a peculiar choice as I tend to stick with clear communicating sans serif type that easy to read. However that just felt odd with such an organic feeling composition, I had to go with something that had a bit more of a hand drawn feel that was a supporting element to the artwork rather than a title that was just slapped on top of it.
There are a couple nitpicks that I would change regarding perspective and a bit of lighting, but other than that, I think it came together decently well.
